SPRINGFIELD - The Jefferson City Lady Jays beat Kickapoo and Liberty North and lost a close match to Springfield Central on Friday in the Kickapoo Invite.
The Lady Jays started with a 5-0 win against the hosts. Sandhiya Baskar and Bailey Higgins (6-4), Akhi Donthireddy and Madelyn Becker (6-3), and Sudhi Kumar and Jaden Harper (7-6 (7-4)) won doubles matches. Baskar (6-3) and Donthireddy (6-3) won in singles.
Springfield Central gave Jefferson City its first loss of the season, winning 5-4. The Lady Bulldogs won all three doubles matches, beating Baskar and Higgins 5-7, Donthireddy and Becker 3-6 and Kumar and Harper 4-6.
Donthireddy (6-3), Kumar (6-0), Becker (6-4) and Harper (6-0) won their singles matches, and Baskar (3-6) and Higgins (6-7 (4-7)) fell.
The Lady Jays responded with a 5-2 win against the Lady Eagles, sweeping doubles matches by Baskar and Higgins (5-7), Donthireddy and Becker (3-6) and Kumar and Harper (4-6). Kumar (6-0) and Harper (6-3) were winners in singles, while Donthireddy and Becker each dropped their singles matches 3-6.
Jefferson City plays Tuesday at Sedalia Smith-Cotton.
