Vienna downs St. Elizabeth to win district softball title

ST. ELIZABETH, Mo. - It took a couple of extra days because of the weather, but the Vienna Lady Eagles captured the Class 1 District 5 title Tuesday night with a 9-3 victory against the St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets.

Jordyn Steffen picked up the win for Vienna, her 18th this season, which is a program record. Steffen allowed one earned run on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

The Lady Eagles are now 24-0 on the season.

Kadence George scored three runs and stole four bases in the win for the Lady Eagles. Gabby Wilkinson, Marsie Messersmith and Steffen each had two hits in the win.

Maddie Wilde was the losing pitcher for St. Elizabeth. She gave up five earned runs and struck out six in six innings and added a hit at the plate. Mara Struemph had two hits for the Lady Hornets, who finish at 7-14.

Vienna plays at 5:30 p.m. today at Pilot Grove (22-3) in a state sectional game.
