Eight area players set for girls golf championships

Eight area golfers are scheduled to begin play today in their respective state tournaments.

Four will play in the Class 2 state championships at Swope Park in Kansas City.

Three Helias Lady Crusaders - Natalie Beck, Greta Hinds and Skylar Nelson - and Sami Swinfard are among the Class 2 qualifiers.

Swinfard is a veteran of the state championships, having tied for 52nd last year.

St. Joseph's Academy, the two-time defending state team champion, is one of eight teams that qualified. Megan Propeck of Notre Dame de Sion returns to defend her individual title.

Swope Park hosted the Class 4 boys state tournament earlier this year.

The other four will play in the Class 1 state champions at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville.

Halie Rackers of Blair Oaks, Lauren Belt of Eugene, Kassidy Hull of Eldon and Sydney Riley of School of the Osage will compete.

There will be a new team champion in Class 1 as two-time defending champion Cape Girardeau Notre Dame did not qualify.

Both tournaments are scheduled for 36 holes and will conclude Tuesday.
