Area trio look to advance to baseball Final Four

Three Mid-Missouri baseball teams will be looking to claim berths in next week's Final Four with wins today.

In Class 3, the South Callaway Bulldogs (22-8) will hit the road for the second time this week as they travel to Strafford to take on the Indians (23-4). Game time is 5 p.m.

South Callaway advanced with a 13-2 win Monday at Mountain Grove, while Strafford doubled up Stockton 10-5 on the road. South Callaway beat Strafford 8-1 in last year's quarterfinals on its way to a state championship.

The Class 3 Final Four is slated for Tuesday and Wednesday at CarShield Field in O'Fallon.

In Class 2, the Russellville Indians (18-13) will play host to the Canton Tigers (12-8) in a 5:30 p.m. contest. It's a rematch of last year's quarterfinal, which Canton won 15-5. Canton went on to take second in the state.

Russellville topped Iberia 6-3 in nine innings in Monday's sectional game, while Canton advanced with a 5-4 victory against Sturgeon.

The Class 2 Final Four will be played Monday and Tuesday in O'Fallon.

In Class 1, the St. Elizabeth Hornets (14-5) will host the Silex Owls (14-3) in a 6 p.m. contest.

St. Elizabeth edged Northwest: Hughesville 6-5 in Monday's sectional at Marshall High School, while Silex was a 4-2 winner against Jamestown in a sectional played at Troy High School.

The Hornets fell 6-5 to Wellsville in last year's quarterfinals. Silex last advanced to the quarterfinals in 2016, beating New Franklin 6-5 on its way to the Final Four.

The Class 1 Final Four is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in O'Fallon.
