Lady Falcons win two sectional relay titles

CARTHAGE, Mo. - The Blair Oaks boys and girls track and field teams advanced to state in nine events Saturday at the Class 3 Sectional 3 meet.

The Lady Falcons won three events and posted 55 points to place fourth in the team standings. The Blair Oaks boys had one event win and took seventh place in the standings with 40 points.

The Blair Oaks girls opened the day on the track with a win in the 4x800-meter relay, run by Grace Scott, Kayla Jones, Natalie Heckman and Emily Yaeger.

Emily Sporleder joined Jones, Heckman and Yaeger for a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, the last event of the meet.

Annette Peterson also won the discus for the Lady Falcons.

Other state qualifiers for the Blair Oaks girls include Yaeger, who placed second in the 800-meter run, and Scott, who finished third in the 1,600-meter run.

The lone win for the Blair Oaks boys came in the 4x400, which was run by Cole Brenneke, Marcus Edler, Adam McCauley and Jayden Purdy.

Blair Oaks also made the cut for state in the 4x800. Brenneke, McCauley, Josh Malone and Kyler Griep came in fourth place at sectionals.

Josh Henson took second in the javelin and Marcus Edler finished third in the 300-meter hurdles, rounding out the state qualifiers for the Falcons.

The Class 3 state track and field championships will be held Friday and Saturday at Adkins Stadium.

The Fatima girls won the sectional title with 82 points, followed by Eldon in second with 78. School of the Osage placed seventh with 50 points.

For the second straight week, the Lady Comets scored 29 points in the 3,200-meter run and claimed the top four spots at sectionals. Fatima will account for 25 percent of the competition in the event at state.

Brianna Haller won the 3,200, followed by Alexis Fischer in second, Kendall Haller in third and Alyssa Struemph in fourth.

Brianna Haller also won the 1,600, followed by Struemph in second place. Fatima also took second place in the 4x800 and was third in the 4x400.

Finishing fourth for the Lady Comets were Halie Moeller in both the 300 hurdles and the pole vault, and Katelyn Vanderfeltz in the 800.

Macie Halderman led the Eldon girls with a second-place finish in the long jump and a third-place mark in the triple jump.

Debra Baucom also qualified in the long jump, as well as the javelin, placing fourth in each.

Haley Clifton advanced to state in a pair of events, taking second in the shot put and third in the discus at sectionals.

Eldon qualified for state in three relays, taking second in the 4x400 and finishing fourth in the 4x800 and the 4x100.

Rounding out the Lady Mustangs' state qualifiers are Kristan Wilson, who was third in the 400-meter dash, and Lauren Imler, who took third in the 800.

The Osage girls advanced to state in five events.

Cecilia Verslues led the way at sectionals with a first-place time in the 100-meter dash and a second-place time in the 200-meter dash.

Kerrigan Gamm is the lone qualifier in field events. She placed second in the javelin.

The Lady Indians also placed second in the 4x200 and third in the 4x100.

The Eldon boys finished eighth in the team standings Saturday with 36 points. Fatima followed in ninth with 31.5 points and Osage tied for 15th with 25 points.

Eldon won the 4x100 at sectionals. Isaiah Merida took fourth in the 100 and Trenton Phillips was fourth in the 200.

Fatima's Gavin Ownbey won the high jump to lead the Comets. The Fatima boys also advanced in the 4x800 with a second-place finish.

Garrett Sutherland is the only state qualifier for the Osage boys. He took fourth place Saturday in the 110-meter hurdles.
