SEDALIA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays were second while the Lady Jays finished sixth Saturday in the Class 5 Sectional 3 meet at Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School.
The Jays totaled 77 points to trail Rock Bridge's 85 in the 15-team field.
The Jays advanced in seven events to this week's Class 5 state championships at Adkins Stadium. Devin Roberson and Cole Biesemeyer paced Jefferson City by advancing in two individual events. Roberson was first in both the shot put and discus, while Biesemeyer was third in the 3,200-meter run and fourth in the 1,600-meter run.
Also advancing to state for the Jays are Andrew Dyer in the 300-meter hurdles, Corey Suttle in the discus, Mason York in the pole vault and the 4x400-meter relay team.
The top four finishers in each event advance to state.
The Jefferson City girls, who finished with 49 team points, advanced to state in three events.
Carlee Brehe advanced in the discus, while Jessica Rhoads will compete in both the shot put and the discus.
The state championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
