For the second straight season, Helias' Dalton Buschjost and Tristan Grawe will finish their season at the Class 1 state championships.
The Crusaders' doubles pairing earned one of the 16 spots for the tournament Tuesday at the Crusader Athletic Complex in the Class 1 sectional round, which paired the top-two singles and doubles players from District 7 and District 8.
Buschjost and Grawe defeated Boonville's Kyle Chrisman and Gabe Rumbaoa 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker), 6-1 to advance to the round of 16.
Individual competition came to an end Tuesday for three Helias players.
In the other doubles match, Jacob Cowley and Seth Pezley suffered a 3-6, 4-6 loss to Boonville's Francesco Bona and Luke Rehagen, the District 7 doubles champions.
Jacob Schepers, Helias' only singles competitor, lost 4-6, 2-6 to Kirksville's Bennett Hoshaw, who won the singles title in District 7.
In the remaining sectional match, Fulton's Haydon Windsor won 6-2, 6-0 against Moberly's Alex Fincher in singles play.
Buschjost and Grawe will play in the Class 1 doubles tournament, which will be held May 25-26 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
Next up for Helias is team play in the Class 1 state tournament. The Crusaders (11-1) will host John Burroughs (19-4) in the sectional round at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Crusader Athletic Complex.
Boonville (11-1) and St. Dominic (15-4) will play their sectional match next at 10:30 a.m. The two sectional champions will then match up in the quarterfinals, which will start at approximately 1 p.m. Saturday.
