California tied for third after first day of Class 2 state golf

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - The California Pintos are in the hunt for a team trophy in the Class 3 state golf tournament.

California finished with a 348 in Monday's opening round of the tournament at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club. Bishop LeBlond, with three golfers tied for fourth or better in the individual standings, leads with a 302. O'Fallon Christian is second with a 335, while Palmyra is tied with California for third at 348.

Matt Hurt of California is part of a five-way tie for ninth after Monday's opening round with an 80. California teammates Jordan Bondurant and Jordan Geiser are among six golfers tied for 26th at 85. Liam Glenn is tied for 74th with a 98, while Chris Cassil is tied for 82nd with a 108.

Ori Bartlett of Versailles shot the best score of area players Monday, totaling a 79 to tie two other golfers for sixth. Garrett Boatright of Versailles shot a 102 and is 78th.

Jake Closser of Blair Oaks is tied for 34th after shooting an 87, while Jarod Steinbeck of the Falcons is tied for 57th with a 93.

Hank Lierz of Bishop LeBlond shot a 69 to hold the individual lead, while his teammate Brooks Jungbluth is second after carding a 71.

The tournament will conclude today.
