Post 5 Seniors begin Fike Tournament with 4-2 loss

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors opened play in the Fike Wood Bat Tournament with a 4-2 loss to Union Bank out of Lincoln, Neb. on Wednesday.

Union Bank got up early, scoring two in the first, one in the second and another in the fourth.

Post 5 scored both its runs in the fifth on a Zach Stiles RBI double and a Hayden Hirschvogel sacrifice fly.

Connor McKenna pitched 4 innings for Jefferson City, striking out five while allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits. Gage Bax struck out three in 2 innings of scoreless relief.

Jefferson City will continue tournament play today. Post 5 will face Post 151 out of Middletown, N.Y. at 10 a.m.

On Monday, Post 5 concluded play in the Firecracker Tournament in Belleville, Ill. with a 5-4 loss to Festus, which rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the seventh.

Festus had a pair of singles and a double with two outs in the seventh for the walk-off victory.

Zach Woehr had two hits and two RBI for Post 5. Hirschvogel also had two hits, including a one-out double in the seventh. After Hirschvogel stole third, he scored when Jacob Adrian reached on an error for a 4-1 lead.

Josef Keiholz hit an RBI double in the two-run fourth inning.

Keilholz went 6 innings on the mound, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Hirschvogel took the loss, giving up a run and two hits in the seventh.
