Jays wrestling opens at Hickman Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays are in fifth place after Friday's opening action at the Hickman Tournament.

Jefferson City totaled 233 points on the first day of the event. Edwardsville, Ill., tops the 20-team field with 355 points. Northwest: Cedar Hill is second at 291, with Parkway South third at 275 and Lee's Summit North fourth at 237.

Will Kuster at 138 pounds and Nate McKaye at 285 were both 3-0 for the Jays. All three of Kuster's wins were by fall, while McKaye pinned two of his opponents.

Peter Kuster at 145 and Ian Cote at 195 were both 2-0. Both of Cote's wins were by fall.

Gabe Zimmerman at 160 was 2-1, while Jeremiah Wallace at 113 and Corey Denny at 170 were both 1-1. Elijah Jackson was 1-2 at 182, while Garrett Butel was 0-1 at 106.

The tournament will conclude today.
