Jays basketball tops Webb City in Kaminsky Classic opener

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays got hot from 3-point range and allowed fewer than 50 points for the fourth time this season in a 64-47 win against Webb City on Thursday in the Kaminsky Classic.

The Jays led 13-10 after the first quarter, and Jared Cooper and Hudson Nilges each made a 3-pointer in the final minute of the first half to make it a 35-27 advantage at halftime. Jefferson City limited Webb City to just seven points in the third quarter to extend its lead to 48-34.

Brennan Jeffries made three 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 15 points for the Jays. Nilges also connected on three 3s to score 11 points. Garrett Parker scored 14 points off the bench for Jefferson City.

The Jays finished 9-of-20 from beyond the arc.

Jefferson City (8-2) will face Francis Howell at 7:30 p.m. today in the semifinals of the tournament.
