Boys Basketball: New Bloomfield 65, Eugene 63

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Jak Kitchens scored with :06 left to lift the New Bloomfield Wildcats to a 65-63 semifinal win Friday against the Eugene Eagles in the Class 2 District 8 Tournament.

In a back-and-forth battle between two state-ranked teams, Eugene led 15-12 after one quarter, but New Bloomfield went ahead 29-26 at halftime.

Eugene - ranked No. 6 in Class 2 - retook the lead 50-44 through three quarters and was ahead 61-53 with 2:30 to play, but New Bloomfield closed the game on a 12-2 run to advance to the championship game.

Kitchens led the Wildcats with 29 points.

Eugene finishes the season with a 20-7 record.

New Bloomfield (21-6), ranked No. 9, will face fifth-ranked Harrisburg (21-6) at 3:30 p.m. today. Harrisburg defeated No. 7 Fayette 76-59 in Friday's other semifinal game.
