The Jefferson City Lady Jays didn't waste any time creating havoc for Battle's offense Thursday night.

Jefferson City forced seven turnovers and scored 13 points in less than four minutes to start the game on its way to a 61-29 win on Senior Night at Fleming Fieldhouse.

"I wanted to come out with a lot of energy, which we did," Jefferson City coach Brad Conway said. "We started getting a lot of easy things out of our press. We're really starting to come around. We're healthy and getting kids in shape and trying to find the right combinations. I was very, very pleased, especially with the way we started."

Jefferson City (17-6) has been victorious in 11 straight games with two remaining before the district tournament.

"There's some things we can still clean up a little bit, but compared to where we were a month ago, a month and a half ago, we've really made some nice strides," Conway said. "Our young kids, our freshmen are really comfortable in what we're trying to do."

Kara Daly, a freshman, scored six of the game's first 13 points, all off turnovers.

Ileah Chambly, a senior, made a free throw following a turnover to make it 13-0 at the 4:23 mark of the first quarter. Chambly and Tori LePage were honored prior to the game for Senior Night.

Chambly finished with five points and was second on the team with six rebounds. LePage had three rebounds and helped on defense with steals.

"Tori does a really good job doing a lot of the little things," Conway said. "Deflections, getting some rebounds. Ileah hustles and got several steals tonight. She got a lot of deflections. I'm happy for them. They are going to be missed next year."

Micah and Sarah Linthacum, who each scored a game-high 12 points, finished a 17-0 run to start the game with jumpers.

Jefferson City forced 12 of Battle's 35 turnovers in the first quarter to build a 19-4 lead.

Caitlin Anderson capped a 14-0 run with a steal and layup for two of her 11 points to make it 31-4 with 3:20 left before halftime. Anderson grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Jefferson City, which received the top seed in the Class 5 District 7 Tournament, will see Battle (5-19) again Feb. 27 in the first round of districts in Wentzville.

The Lady Jays will conclude the regular season next week as they play Tuesday at Pacific and Friday against Hickman at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Jefferson City won Thursday's JV game 49-22 against the Spartans to improve to 12-6.

Taylor Mann and Sakkyra King scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Jefferson City.
