Calvary Lutheran sweeps team titles at CCAA conference track

ASHLAND - The Calvary Lutheran Lions and Lady Lions repeated as CCAA conference track and field champions Thursday in the five-team meet at Southern Boone.

The Calvary boys finished with 142 points in the team standings, well ahead of second-place Jamestown's 87 points. Prairie Home was third with 57 points, Higbee took fourth with 55 and Bunceton finished fifth with eight points.

The Calvary girls posted 131 points overall, with Higbee well behind in second place with 85 points. Jamestown was third with 73 points, followed by Prairie Home with 34 points and Bunceton in fifth with 17.

The Calvary boys and girls each won 12 of the 19 events at the conference meet, winning titles in all eight relay events.

Winning in the relays for the Lions were:

Sam Felger, Austin Meisel, RJ Mays and Reece Going with a time of 47.67 seconds in the 4x100. The same four runners also won the 4x200 with a time of 1:39.73.

Matt Allen, Jimmie Wehmeyer, Grant Going and Reece Going won the 4x400 with a time of 3:46.50.

Grant Going, Josh Thieme, Cole Going and Isaiah Barg won for Calvary in the 4x800 with a time of 10:29.50.

Posting first-place finishes in the relays for the Lady Lions were:

Andrea Stanford, Sarah Johnson, Olivia Bexten and Katy Allen clocked a winning time of 54.96 seconds in the 4x100.

Stanford, Johnson, Emma Homfeldt and Allen finished the 4x200 in 1:56.50.

In the 4x400, Johnson, Baileigh Morris, Allison Procter and Homfeldt took first in 4:44.77.

Johnson was a quadruple-winner in all four relays for Calvary. She joined Morris, Madeline Wilson and Homfeldt in the 4x800, posting a first-place time of 11:09.87.

Calvary Lutheran also swept titles in five individual events at the meet.

Matt Allen won the 300-meter hurdles for the Lions in a time of 46.92 seconds, while Jordyn Mays posted a time of 58.67 seconds to win the girls 300 hurdles.

In the 800-meter run, Grant Going won for the boys in 2:12.83 and Homfeldt posted a first-place time of 2:28.63 for the girls.

Anastaysia Otten picked up a win in the 3,200-meter run for the Lady Lions in a time of 16:00.56, while Cole Going won the boys 3,200 in 12:01.10.

Katy Allen was also a quadruple-winner for the Lady Lions, sweeping the CCAA titles in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 7 inches, and in the triple jump with a distance of 32-1.

For the Calvary boys, Matt Allen won the long jump with a jump of 19-2 and Mays finished first in the triple jump at 37-8.

Also picking up first-place finishes for the Calvary girls were Kate Schlichting in the 400-meter dash (1:15.65), Olivia Bexten in the high jump (4-2) and Amanda Braun in the javelin (99-3).

As for the Lions, their other conference champions are Meisel in the 100-meter dash (11.60 seconds), Reece Going in the 200-meter dash (23.55 seconds) and Luke Felger in the discus (116-3).

The Calvary girls finished 1-2 in three individual events. Morris was second in the 800 with a time of 2:50.45, while Bailey Barg was runner-up in the 3,200 with a time of 16:42.91. Sydney Duenckel also placed second in the javelin (91-2).

Wilson and Otten took second and third, respectively, in the 1,600-meter run for the Lady Lions in times of 6:35.80 and 7:20.90. Procter was third in the long jump (13-6.25) and Izzy Chilambo took third in the discus (75-4).

The Calvary boys had four second-place finishes Thursday. Cole Going was second in the 1,600 in 5:16.89 and Austin Meisel finished runner-up in the 200 (24.20 seconds). In the field events, Luke Felger placed second in the shot put (33-6.25) and Matt Allen took second in the high jump (5-6).

The Lions placed third in four events as well, with Mays following Allen in the high jump with a third-place mark at 5-4. Other third-place finishes for the Calvary boys include: Clancy Dunn in the javelin (96-10), Thieme in the 3,2000 (12:30.09) and Wehmeyer in the 400 (58.37 seconds).
