Prep Track: Jays, Lady Jays combine for 10 wins at Relays

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays and Lady Jays combined to win seven individual events and three relays at the Hickman Relays on Tuesday.

The Helias Lady Crusaders also had an individual champion as Chloe Ramsey won the pole vault by clearing 11 feet.

Devin Roberson was a double-winner for the Jays, taking first in the discus with a toss of 170-7 and topping the shot put with a mark of 50-5.5. Corey Suttle was the runner-up finisher in both events. Suttle reached a mark of 48 in the shot put and 140-6 in the discus. Brandon Backues was third in the shot put at 46-10.

Tristan Huber took top honors in the javelin with a throw of 140-6. Zach Vanderfeltz of Helias was third at 122-2.

The Jays' 4x800-meter relay team of Izaak Sochinski, Jeffrey Dodson, Deaken Walker and Andrew Nield won with a time of 8:43.99.

Mason York was a second-place finisher in the pole vault by clearing 14 feet.

The Lady Jays were strong in the field events, winning four of them.

Jessica Rhoads was first in the shot put at 38-10. Cilicia Jamison made it a 1-2 finish for Jefferson City with a mark of 33-4.

Carlee Brehe beat out Rhoads in the discus with a throw of 115-6. Rhoads finished with a mark of 110-10.

In the high jump, Cailin Mooney won by clearing five feet. Rylee Kolb of Helias tied for second by clearing 4-10.

Sakkyra King and Ezinne Opara finished 1-2 in the triple jump with marks of 33-7.25 and 33-3.5, respectively.

Dijonay Dawson earned a third-place finish in the long jump by leaping 15-7.5.

Lady Crusader Grace Stiefermann was third in the javelin with a throw of 95-11.

The Lady Jays won a pair of relays. Ezinne Opara, Ileah Chambly, Dawson and Shaina Anderson were first in the 4x100 with a time of 51.01. Opara, Rhakala Blackman, Dawson and Anderson placed first in the 4x200 in 1:50.18.

The Jays and Lady Jays will compete in the Swift and Staley Midwest Team Challenge on Friday and Saturday in Paducah, Ky.

The Crusaders and Lady Crusaders will participate in the Warrenton Invitational on Friday.
