Jays baseball falls to state-ranked teams in Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Jefferson City Jays wrapped up play in the River City Festival on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Blue Valley Northwest at Lawrence Free State and 5-4 to Shawnee Mission East at the University of Kansas.

Shawnee Mission East, the No. 5 team in Class 6 in Kansas, won in walk-off fashion after the Jays tied the game at 4 with a run in the top of the seventh.

Landon Dunlap had a hit and three RBI to lead the Jays. Blake Terry added a hit and RBI.

Terry was the losing pitcher, allowing a run on two hits and two walks with a strikeout.

Jack Shinkle started the game on the mound, allowing a run on three hits and two walks in an inning.

Dunlap went five innings in relief, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk.

Justin Wood pitched against Blue Valley Northwest - ranked No. 1 in Class 6 in Kansas - and allowed three runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings.

Mason Hansen reached base twice with a hit and a walk.

Jefferson City (14-8) will host Lebanon on Tuesday.
