Jays baseball falls 4-2 to Blue Springs

LAWRENCE, Kan. - All of the offensive production for the Jefferson City Jays came in the third inning Friday. All of Blue Springs' offense occurred in the fifth inning.

Unfortunately for the Jays, the Wildcats were twice as productive on the scoreboard for that one inning as they fell 4-2 in the River City Festival at Lawrence High School.

Dawson Schuemann led off the bottom of the third with a single and ended up scoring on Michael Skinner's sacrifice bunt to give Jefferson City a 1-0 lead.

Tyler Bise also had a single and Jack Shinkle drove him in with a base hit to left field.

The Wildcats scored all of their runs with two outs in the fifth. Nick Brandner singled in a run, Andrew Garry singled in two to give Blue Springs the lead and a fourth run scored on Matt Smith's single.

Joseph Travis took the loss on the mound, giving up seven hits and one earned run in seven innings. He struck out five and walked three.

Jefferson City (14-6) will face a pair of ranked teams today in the Festival. First up is Blue Valley Northwest, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 6 in Kansas, at 9 a.m. at Lawrence Free State. Jefferson City will take on Shawnee Mission East, the No. 5 ranked team in Class 6 in Kansas, at 1:30 p.m. at Kansas University.
