It wasn't a no-doubter. Actually, it appeared it would be a flyout to left field to strand the bases loaded in the fourth inning. It ended up being more spectacular than that.

St. Elizabeth freshman Dylan Wobbe cleared the fence in left-center field for his first career home run, a grand slam no less.

"It just snuck over," St. Elizabeth coach Caleb Heckemeyer said following a 21-2 win in five innings Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran. "He thought it was just going to be caught at the fence because he wasn't running. None of the guys were."

The baserunners started moving and Wobbe got to round the bases to reach seven RBI for the game. His first hit was nearly a three-run blast, but he settled for a two-RBI double off the left-field fence in the second inning. All that production coming out of the No. 8 spot in the lineup.

"He's normally been batting higher in the lineup, but he's been struggling to start the year off," Heckemeyer said. "This is a good game to get his bat going."

The double was part of a nine-run second inning for St. Elizabeth (5-3), with eight of those runs coming with two outs.

Calvary Lutheran (0-7) second baseman Jared Braun snagged a line drive and doubled off the runner at second base. A 5-0 game turned into a 13-0 contest after 10 straight Hornets reached base.

Nolan Heckemeyer led off the inning with a double and scored when Aaron Blomberg bounced a grounder to left field for a single.

Heckemeyer added a single in the inning and Blomberg, who had two hits and two RBI, drove in another run with a grounder down the right-field line for a double.

Coltin Green had two of his three hits in the inning. The first was a double after the double play and he drove in the ninth run of the inning with an infield single.

Heckemeyer had three of St. Elizabeth's 22 hits from the leadoff spot.

"We came out ready to go," coach Heckemeyer said. "They were patient trying to wait for their pitches. The strike zone was a little bit different, so they had to kind of adjust in their heads for what pitch they are wanting. When they got the pitch they wanted, they hit it."

Dakota Kemna, Mason Kemna, Sawyer Boessen and Kendal Bax each had two RBI.

"I thought Jack (Salmons) was around the plate and I think everything they hit found a hole," Calvary Lutheran coach Rusty Bourg said.

Salmons went 3 innings and Conner Kimsey threw 1 innings for the Lions.

Heckemeyer pitched into the third for the Hornets, reaching 45 pitches with two runners in scoring position, two outs and a full count. Wobbe stepped to the mound so Heckemeyer could be available to pitch if needed in Thursday's game at Iberia.

Heckemeyer gave up one run, two hits and walked one with six strikeouts.

"He hasn't pitched much," Heckemeyer said. "Trying to get him some innings. Came in firing strikes, did his job."

The Lions scored their first run in the third inning when Nick Stark walked with the bases loaded to allow Ian MacLaughlin to cross the plate.

Calvary Lutheran added a second run in the fifth when Jimmie Wehmeyer sent a fly ball to left field for a single, scoring Kimsey.

"We had a couple guys hit the ball," Bourg said. "We've just got to get more consistent."

Calvary Lutheran will face Vienna, the sixth ranked team in Class 2, for the second time in a week Thursday at Vienna.

St. Elizabeth enters Thursday's game at Iberia on a four-game winning streak.

"We're starting to get in our groove now," Heckemeyer said. "Kind of a rough patch there but we're on the right track."
