ST. LOUIS - The C.B.C. Cadets decided Friday night's outcome by halftime.

Brett Gabbert threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns in just the first half, leading the No. 1-ranked Cadets to a 42-15 win against the Jefferson City Jays to improve to 6-1 on the season.

"I hate to sound like a broken record but we're doing great things," Jefferson City coach Ted LePage said. "The pass coverage, the guy was a really good quarterback and put it right on the money. There were two passes that we had guys right there. I said, 'Don't get down.'"

Gabbert's second touchdown toss was a 26-yard connection to Cameron Brown, who made an over-the-shoulder catch in stride. It made it 21-0 with 9:18 left in the second quarter.

After the Jays went 3-and-out, Gabbert rifled in a pass to Julian Williams in the middle of the field against tight coverage. Williams sprinted to the end zone the rest of the way for a 45-yard score.

C.B.C. added a fifth first-half score after another Jefferson City 3-and-out - a 40-yard pass from Gabbert to Tyler Walton down the right sideline.

Gabbert finished 18-of-20 for 286 yards. Brown caught eight passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

"I said, 'I want to win the second half,'" LePage said. "I wanted to show them that I'm coaching for them and we're coaching as coaches, not just me, but us as coaches we're coaching for them to win."

Jefferson City did outscore the Cadets 15-7 in the second half.

Chance Lotts capped off a 10-play, 70-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run to open the second half.

The Jays then turned two C.B.C. fumbles into points.

Devin Roberson found Christian White for a 56-yard completion on the second play of a drive that followed the first fumble.

Roberson threw for 180 yards on 11-of-19 passing.

"I think at times Devin is just off the charts, and then at times he tries to do too much," LePage said.

White caught four passes for 100 yards.

Three plays later, Mitchell Huston fumbled at the 1-yard line, but Noah Jahr recovered it in the end zone for the score to make it 42-7 after the extra point with 6:08 left in the game.

Jays linebacker Elijah Jackson returned a fumble 59 yards to the house on the Cadets' next drive. K.D. Rosser ran in for two points to make it 42-15 with 2:30 left in the game.

"We have momentum for next week and our players are going to come back and be prepared for next week," LePage said.

Jefferson City (2-5) will host Battle (5-2) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

The Spartans defeated Truman 34-0 on the road Friday.
