Prep Softball: Lady Jays start 1-1 in tourney

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Jefferson City blasted St. Joseph's Academy 17-1 at the Kewpie Classic, winning in four innings. Kara Daily threw three innings of one-run ball, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out four. Megan Green pitched a scoreless fourth with a strikeout and a hit.

Brooke Bates hit 4-for-4 for the Lady Jays, including a triple, driving in two and scoring three times. Freedom Austell hit 2-for-2 with a walk, a triple, four RBI and two runs. The rest of Jefferson City's 15 hits were scattered throughout the lineup, and Mychael Jett, Abi Karr and Lauren Nebauer all drove in two runs.

Lee's Summit West came out on top in the Lady Jays' other game from Columbia Friday, winning 5-1. Jett threw six innings in a loss, giving up seven hits and four earned runs, walking and striking out one.

The Lady Jays continue play today in the Kewpie Classic.

Blair Oaks plays Troy today at 9 a.m. in the Kewpie Classic.
