Jefferson City volleyball wins first district title since 2013

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. - It took six sets to do it, but the Jefferson City Lady Jays got it done.

The Lady Jays beat Grain Valley 25-16, 17-25, 25-18 in the semifinals before defeating Blue Springs South 25-18, 17-25, 25-23 on Wednesday night to claim the Class 4 District 9 championship. It's the first district title for the Lady Jays since 2013.

Annabelle Maassen led the Lady Jays in kills in both matches, totaling nine in the semifinals and 10 in the championship match.

Corrin Lepper and Baylee Rozier added eight and seven kills, respectively, against Grain Valley. Lepper had seven kills in the title match.

Jefferson City finished with a combined 13 blocks Wednesday. Lepper, Rozier and Stephanie Fisher each had two against Blue Springs South. Samantha Murray led Jefferson City with two against Grain Valley.

Maassen racked up 21 digs on the night. Libero Tori LePage totaled 20 combined digs.

Jefferson City (21-8-5) will face a familiar opponent Saturday in the sectional round as it takes on Ozark (28-7-2), which defeated the Lady Jays 25-12, 25-27, 25-13 on Aug. 31 at Fleming Fieldhouse.

The game will be played at Carl Junction (25-8), which will play Willard (30-3-1) in its sectional match.
