Falcons clinch third straight undefeated regular season

WARSAW - It was the perfect finish to a perfect regular season.

Blair Oaks quarterback Nolan Hair, making his first start since suffering a lower right leg injury six weeks ago, flourished in his one half of action Friday night. Hair threw for career-highs of 401 yards and six touchdowns, leading the Falcons to a 64-6 win against the Warsaw Wildcats.

Blair Oaks capped its third straight perfect regular season by stretching its Tri-County Conference win streak to 23 games for another outright conference championship.

"We're very proud of them," said Blair Oaks coach Terry Walker, who has yet to lose in the regular season in his first three years with the Falcons. "You look at the hurdles that they had to overcome, with regard to Nolan being out for an extended period of time and then going through a stretch of really tough games there in the Tri-County, the kids answered the bell each and every single time.

"It certainly wasn't pretty, and a couple of games were actually very ugly, but to the kids' credit, they did exactly what we asked them to do. They kept on playing hard, and when you do that, good things tend to happen."

Blair Oaks scored touchdowns on seven of its eight offensive possessions in the first half, and nine of its 11 drives in the game.

Hair completed his first eight passes of the game. His fourth completion was a 6-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Luebbering on the Falcons' opening drive, giving Blair Oaks a 6-0 lead 90 seconds into the game.

His sixth pass was a 53-yard strike to Marcus Edler with 4:52 left in the opening quarter. In the final minute of the first quarter, Edler added another touchdown grab from eight yards out, extending the Blair Oaks' lead to 18-0.

Warsaw answered with its only touchdown of the game, a 68-yard run by Kieon Davis, on the final play of the first quarter to make the score 18-6.

Blair Oaks scored four times in the final 6:16 of the first half.

Ben Thomas caught a 21-yard pass from Hair and Ethan Luebbering added the 2-point conversion, making the score 26-6.

Sam Luebbering scored his first career touchdown on a 38-yard run, and Ethan Luebbering added the conversion, extending the lead to 34-6 with 2:46 left.

Ethan Luebbering caught a 21-yard pass to cap a 25-second drive. Riley Lentz added the 2-point run to make it 42-6 with 1:20 to go.

The Falcons marched 84 yards in :23.2, finishing the drive with a 27-yard jump-ball grab by Thomas just inside the end zone for the final play of the half. Blair Oaks went into halftime with a 48-6 lead.

The Falcons ran their two-minute drill on the final two possessions of the half, yet needed less than 30 seconds on each drive to score.

"We do two-minute drill on Wednesday and Thursday every week in practice," Walker said. " On the two-minute drills, we let Nolan call (the plays), and he does a great job of calling it. He sees it better than what we can sometimes, and it makes things go faster."

With a running clock for the entire second half, Blair Oaks ran just one offensive play in the third quarter. Braydan Pritchett had a 57-yard run with 4:11 on the clock and Hayden Irvin added the 2-point conversion, extending the Falcons' lead to 56-6.

On the final play of the game, Kamron Morriss scored on a 1-yard run, then added the 2-point conversion as time expired, to give Blair Oaks a season-high 64 points.

Hair, who completed 23-of-30 passes, did not play in the second half. As Walker had planned, Cade Stockman took over at quarterback for the Falcons' three possessions after halftime.

Blair Oaks had five different players with at least 50 yards receiving. Ethan Luebbering led the Falcons with nine catches for 113 yards. Edler finished with four receptions for 98 yards. Pritchett (69), Lentz (65) and Thomas (56) also surpassed 50 yards receiving.

Pritchett also added two carries for 58 yards, while Sam Luebbering had six rushes for 52 yards. Blair Oaks finished with 531 total yards of offense.

Blair Oaks won the turnover battle for the second straight week, finishing with three takeaways. Edler had two interceptions and Brandon Sharp had a fumble recovery.

Friday was the final Tri-County football game for Warsaw (4-5, 2-5 Tri-County), which will depart for the Ozark Highlands Conference next season.

Blair Oaks (9-0, 7-0) clinches the No. 1 seed in Class 3 District 6 and will have home-field advantage throughout district play. The Falcons will host eighth-seeded Missouri Military Academy (1-8) at 7 p.m. next Friday in the district quarterfinals at the Falcon Athletic Complex. The Colonels lost 28-21 on Friday at home to the Central Homeschool Panthers.
