Dowden and Conley still alive at state

SPRINGFIELD - Helias' Abby Dowden and Catherine Conley won two of three matches Friday in the Class 1 doubles tournament and advanced to today's consolation semifinals.

Conley and Dowden beat Audrianna Hebron and Kristina Green of St. Dominic 6-1, 6-0 in the first round Friday. In quarterfinals, the two were bested 6-0, 6-2 by Marla Brandt and Elizabeth Goldstein of Incarnate Word.

The Crusaders' doubles team got their 23rd win of the season, which is a program record, in the consolation quarterfinals, beating Darcy Campbell and Sydni McAtee of Kennett 6-0, 6-0. Conley and Dowden are now 59-10 together at Helias.

The two will face Alisha Castaner and Jean Li of Pembroke Hill at 9 a.m. today. The highest Helias can finish is fifth, with two wins today, and the lowest possible finish is eighth.
