It was Grandparents Night on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 as Helias softball hosted St. Dominic at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex to wrap up the regular season. Helias won 10-3.

The wind was blowing out to left field Monday night.

But not that much. Those balls were hit.

Helias got home runs from Abbi Pringer, Rylee Kolb and Kenley Haslag in a 10-3 victory against St. Dominic in a matchup of Lady Crusaders at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex.

"Abbi, Rylee and Kenley all hit it well, those were good shots," Campbell said. "We were patient, waiting for our pitch and hitting it when we got it. That was good to see."

Helias scored twice in the bottom of the first inning. Pringer led off with a single, before getting to third on a one-out double by Kolb. Pringer scored on a wild pitch, while Kolb moved to third. Kolb then scored on another wild pitch.

Pringer led off the third by belting the first pitch over the fence in left one out later, Kolb belted a solo home run to center to make it 4-0.

Helias doubled its advantage with four runs in the fifth. Pringer led off with a single before scoring two outs later on a homer to left center by Haslag, the key hit in the inning.

After St. Dominic scored a run in the top of the sixth, Helias got two in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-1. Haslag had an RBI single, followed by an RBI double by Tabitha Imhoff.

St. Dominic got its final two runs in the seventh on a home run by Riley Luetkenhaus off Helias starter and winner Lauren Howell.

"I'll take responsibility for that one," Campbell said. "With the big lead, I told her to just go right at them and if they hit it, they hit it. It's no big deal."

Howell finished with 14 strikeouts in the complete-game victory. She allowed seven hits and walked two.

"She ran the count a little high a few times, but she pitched well for not being out there for almost a week," Campbell said.

Two of those seven hits came in the third, but Howell got out of the inning on a relay throw to the plate to end the threat.

"We have been working on that play for so long, it's great to see us finally execute it," Campbell said. "You have to do things like that against good hitting teams."

The three home runs in a game are a season-high for Helias.

"Hopefully we can keep that going," Campbell said. "We might need something like that later this week."

Helias (20-5) opens the postseason Thursday in the Class 3 District 9 Tournament at Sullivan.

"Everybody is 0-0 now," Campbell said. "I've seen a lot of crazy things happen in districts, you need to be ready to play every time you go out there. Because if you're not, it can be your last game."

Helias is the No. 2 seed behind Sullivan in the six-team district. The Lady Crusaders have a first-round bye before playing the winner of Wednesday's game between third-seeded Southern Boone and sixth-seeded Owensville.

St. Dominic (15-12) is the No. 1 seed in Class 3 District 7.
