Anna Vollet of Helias eyes the finish of the Class 4 girls 100-meter dash Saturday at Adkins Stadium.

Anna Vollet wasn't concerned about medals entering the Class 4 state track and field championships.

The Helias junior wanted to post personal bests in her events. And she's talented enough, the medals took care of themselves.

"I did it in everything except the long jump," Vollet said Saturday night after she earned the third of her three medals on the day. "I was a little tired after running the 200."

It's understandable. With the event schedule compressed due to a five-hour weather delay Saturday, Vollet had just finished second in the 200-meter dash before immediately heading to the long jump area.

Vollet set school records in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes in the championships.

She opened Saturday by finishing seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.36.

"I was pretty happy, I think the 100 is one of my worst events and I wasn't sure I was even going to make it to the finals," Vollet said.

In the 200, Vollet finished second with a time of 25.33. She set the Helias record in the Friday's preliminaries with a time of 25.27.

After getting her medal in the 200, it was off to the long jump. Vollet finished tied with Trace Mosby of Smithville at 17 feet, 4.75 inches, but lost the tiebreaker to finish fourth in the event.

The long jump was shortened to just four attempts to help complete the championships in a timely fashion after the delay.

"When you're breaking school records like she did, that's a great year," Helias coach Tim Rulo said.

The goal was for Vollet to score 15 points at state. She bettered that by a point.

"What a great meet for Anna," Rulo said. "She showed the ability to be a top performer at state."

Helias finished with 28 team points to finish in a tie with Webb City for ninth in the final team standings.

On the boys side, Helias was in one event Saturday.

The Crusaders' 4x800-meter relay team of Chandler Luebbert, Jacob Ceglinski, Joe Randazzo and Jack Crull finished ninth, one spot away from a medal.

"My heart breaks for those guys, they ran so well," Rulo said. "They worked so hard all year. I know they're sad, I was sad for them, but they should be so happy her effort."

The foursome ran its fastest time of the season at 8:06.93.
