Show-Me trio in baseball quarterfinals

Three Show-Me Conference baseball teams are playing today in the state quarterfinals, just one step away from reaching the Final Four.

St. Elizabeth (13-6) will play Wellsville (9-11) at 4 p.m. in Mexico. The Hornets won 10-0 in five innings Tuesday against Santa Fe, while Wellsville picked up a 5-1 road win against Pilot Grove.

The winner will advance to the Class 1 semifinals to face either La Plata (16-4) or Northeast Nodaway (13-4) at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Car Shield Field in O'Fallon.

St. Elizabeth has won nine of its last 10 games.

In Class 2, Russellville (15-9) will also go on the road today to play at Canton, with a start time set for 5:30 p.m. The Indians won their sectional game Tuesday 3-0 against conference foe Linn, while Canton won 10-0 against Sturgeon on Wednesday.

The winner of today's quarterfinal will play in the Class 2 semifinals against either South Pemiscott (15-7) or St. Vincent (11-10) at 4 p.m. next Wednesday in O'Fallon.

Russellville had won eight of its last 10 games.

South Callaway (25-5) will host Strafford (19-6) at 5 p.m. today in Mokane. The Bulldogs knocked off defending state champion Mountain Grove 6-5 in the sectional round Tuesday, while Strafford picked up an 8-0 win against Stockton.

The winner of that quarterfinal matchup will play either Knob Noster (19-5) or Mid-Buchanan (19-2) in the Class 3 semifinals at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday in O'Fallon.

South Callaway, which had a 15-game win streak earlier this season, has won five of its last six.
