While there's no team hardware on the line for Jefferson City, a pair of Jays will be bidding for individual honors in the Class 4 state golf championships.

Austin Siebeneck and Brett Trowbridge have advanced to the two-day tournament, which begins today at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin.

"Austin and Brett are playing extremely well at this point," Jefferson City coach Randy Bickel said. "They've worked hard this past week and I would expect both of them to be in the top 15 to make all-state."

The top 15 individuals at the tournament earn all-state honors.

Siebeneck and Trowbridge, both juniors, advanced to state by virtue of their performances at the district and sectional tournaments. Siebeneck tied for 17th at districts and tied for 11th at the sectional to get to state, while Trowbridge tied for 10th at districts and 17th at sectionals.

"Both assistant coach (Levi) Elder and myself are extremely proud of how well they have played this year and how they've stepped up their focus and intensity and practice these past couple days," Bickel said.

The California Pintos battled their way as a team to the Class 2 state championships.

The top two teams in the district tournament automatically advance to the sectional tournament. The Pintos finished third, but because they had five players advance as individuals to the sectional, California could post a team score.

The Pintos took full advantage, finishing second in the sectional to get to the state tournament that begins today at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa.

California will be represented by Jordan Geiser, Matt Hurt, Dylan Kramel, Kale McAdams and Liam Schatzer.

Two other area individuals - Ori Bartlett of Versailles and Blake Parker of South Callaway - have also advanced to the Class 2 championships.

The Eugene Eagles and the Linn Wildcats will each have two individuals in the Class 1 state championships at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar.

Eugene teammates Austin Evers and Cameron Lauf, along with the Linn duo of Kole Peters and Ethan Russell, will play in the event starting today. Lauf was 88th last year in the Class 2 championships for Eugene.

Also advancing from the area are Class 1 repeat qualifiers Gannon Withers of New Bloomfield and Tristan Bolin of Tipton.

Withers tied for 31st at state last year, while Bolin tied for 43rd.

Watts tied for 23rd in Class 2 last season in the tournament played at Sedalia. Krantz tied for 34th in Class 3 last season.
