Track & Field: Russellville, Eugene win sectional titles

RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. - The Russellville Indians and the Eugene Lady Eagles captured team honors Saturday in Class 2 sectional track and field.

Russellville totaled 76 points to take top honors on the boys side. The Indians, who will compete in eight events at state, had Harrison Frank win the 800-meter run as well as taking the victory in the 4x800-meter relay.

South Callaway was second with 73 points. The Bulldogs also advanced in eight events, with Wyatt Hager (pole vault), Landon Horstman (triple jump) and Bennett Hager (high jump) taking first place.

New Bloomfield was third with 70 points. The Wildcats got event wins from Payton Culwell in the 400-meter dash as well as from the 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams.

Linn was 12th with 25 points, advancing a pair of relays to state.

On the girls side, Jasmine Evers was a double-winner for Eugene as the Lady Eagles totaled 97 points.

Evers was first in the shot put and discus.

The Lady Eagles also got victories from Allyssa Puckett in the javelin and Jodi Polly in the 400-meter dash, as well as the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays. Eugene advanced to state in six events.

Linn was third with 76.5 points and advanced to state in eight events.

South Callaway was fifth with 55 points, advancing to state in five events. Winning Saturday were Ashley Potter in the long jump and Kaci Jordan in the triple jump.

Russellville was seventh with 45 points. The Lady Indians advanced to state in five events, including Mackenzie Schwartz's win in the 100-meter hurdles.

New Bloomfield finished 11th with 26 points and will be represented at state in two events.
