School of the Osage girls claim crown

LAKE OZARK - The School of the Osage Lady Indians avenged last week's regular-season loss to the Eldon Lady Mustangs, winning the rematch 60-51 on Thursday in the Class 4 District 11 championship game.

Osage led 15-12 after the first quarter, which featured four ties in a back-and-forth battle in the early going.

Eldon retook the lead briefly with an 8-0 run - on four baskets by Macie Halderman - in the second quarter to take a 20-17 lead at the 3:45 mark. The 3-point lead would be the Lady Mustangs' largest of the game.

Osage outscored Eldon 9-2 to finish the first half and lead 26-22 at the break.

Taylor Pehle scored 10 points in the third quarter, including a 3-pointer from the left corner to tie the game at 41. The Eldon senior knocked down another 3 from the left wing with 6:21 to play in the game, giving the Lady Mustangs a 46-45 lead.

Kerrigan Gamm and Clare Colonius scored on back-to-back Osage possessions to give the Lady Indians the lead for good. Eldon would make just two field goals the rest of the game, including another 3 by Pehle in the final minute.

Pehle finished with a game-high 23 points for Eldon and Halderman added 18 points and 11 rebounds. The two Lady Mustangs each shot 8-of-16 from the field.

Gamm paced Osage with 22 points. Kendal Miller also scored in double figures with 11 points, while Jordyn Barlett posted a game-high 12 rebounds to go with 12 points.

Osage (21-6) will play the winner of the District 12 championship between Clinton and Harrisonville in the Class 4 sectionals at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School. Clinton (7-18) and Harrisonville (13-12) play at 6 p.m. today in Clinton.

Eldon, the Tri-County Conference regular-season champion, finishes the season at 21-6.
