Post 5 goes 4-0 in pool play in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - Jefferson City Post 5 baseball finished pool play of the Battle of Omaha with a 4-0 record following a pair of wins Friday.

Post 5 began the day with a 1-0 victory against Burke (Neb.) then held off Alaska for a 6-4 win.

Ryan Paschal and Jason Rackers combined to throw the shutout against Burke. Paschal earned the win by allowing just four hits in 51/3 innings. He struck out three and walked three. Rackers recorded the save by striking out three and allowing one hit in 12/3 innings.

Jefferson City's lone run came in the third inning when Brandon Williams hit a solo home run.

Rackers and Johnathan Backes each drove in two runs against Alaska. Backes finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single, while Rackers went 2-for-4 with a single and a double.

Alex Buschjost was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Logan Bexten picked up the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in six innings. He also struck out seven and walked two. Hayden Hirschvogel pitched the seventh inning, surrendering a run and three hits for the save.

Post 5 led Alaska 6-1 after five before allowing two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Bracket play begins Sunday.
