Central Missouri Phenom Black goes 2-2 in tourney

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Central Missouri Phenom Black baseball team split its four games during the weekend at Kansas City (Kan.) Community College.

The Phenom Black opened the tournament Friday with a 6-3 loss to the 29ers, who led from start to finish. Graysan Peneston and Peyton Roberts each had two hits and Andrew Rodriguez struck out three batters in four innings of work.

Central Missouri finished the day with a 5-2 win against the Building Champions 18U team. The Phenom Black scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away to victory.

Tyler Cassmeyer went the distance, striking out six and walking two in seven innings.

Peneston had another two-hit game and Kory Stephens drove in two runs.

On Saturday, the Phenom Black opened the day with a 4-1 loss to the Central Illinois Outlaws. Central Missouri was held to three hits and Roberts drove in the team's lone run in the top of the seventh.

Mason Hunter was the losing pitcher, but he finished with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.

Central Missouri finished the tournament Saturday, rallying twice to win 4-3 against the Illinois Steel 17U team. The Phenom Black scored twice in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2, then plated two more runs in the fifth to take a one-run lead.

Ethan Rackers went the distance in the win, striking out six and walking two in seven innings while scattering five hits. Roberts led the Phenom Black (22-8) at the plate with two hits and one RBI.

The Central Missouri Phenom Blue and White teams also played during the weekend in Kansas, each finishing with a 0-3-1 record.

The Phenom White (20-9-4) dropped its first three games, losing to Cavalier Baseball Club 2-1 and to South Side Baseball Club 2-0 on Sunday, then falling to Building Champions 17U White 13-0 on Sunday. Central Missouri wrapped up the weekend with a 3-all tie against St. Louis Sting 18U.

Connor McKenna pitched all seven innings against South Side, scattering five hits. He also collected two hits on offense in the loss.

Chad Volmert also pitched a complete game in the tie against the Sting, striking out eight batters. He also drove in one run.

As for the Phenom Blue (15-16-1), they also tied the Sting at 6-all through seven innings. They lost 9-2 to South Side, 2-0 to Cavalier Baseball and 2-0 to Building Champions.

Austin Flippin struck out seven batters in 4 innings against the Sting. Colton Johannes drove in a pair of runs.

Aaron Blomberg finished with four strikeouts in 2 innings against Building Champions. Garret Wolfe and Johannes each had one strikeout.
