Careaga wins wrestling title for Helias

PLATTE CITY, Mo. - Jackson Careaga captured honors Saturday for Helias at the Platte County Wrestling Invitational.

Careaga, a freshman, went 5-1 to take the title at 132 pounds. He won three of his matches by fall and another by a major decision.

Evan Winder, a sophomore, was second at 106. Winder finished 5-1 in the two-day tournament, winning three matches by pin and one by major decision.

Nick Gaines finished fourth at 145. He started the tournament 4-1 before forfeiting his final two matches due to injury.

Dustin Luebbert was fifth at 138, while Zack Carr was sixth at 126. Colden Imhoff (160) and Cole Czarnecki (285) both finished seventh, while Will Farmer was eighth at 182 and Noah Wieberg was ninth at 182.

"There were a lot of tough weight classes in this tournament," Helias coach Bryant Gaines said.

Helias, open at five weights, finished ninth in the tournament with 190 points. Seneca was first with 411.5, while Platte County was second at 408 and Oak Grove third at 395.5.

Helias is scheduled to return to the mats next Saturday at the Warrensburg Invitational.
