Lincoln senior named MIAA's player of the week

Lincoln senior guard Anthony Virdure was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Virdure was one of nine finalists for this week's award. He averaged 27.5 points in Lincoln's two conference games last week.

In last Thursday's 78-70 loss against Central Oklahoma, Virdure led the Blue Tigers with 23 points and six assists. He also shot 9-of-9 at the free-throw line in the loss.

He matched his career high with 32 points Saturday in Lincoln's 81-65 win against Northeastern State. Virdure shot 10-of-16 from the field and made 10-of-12 shots at the free-throw line, adding seven rebounds and three assists in the win.

Virdure is fourth in scoring in the MIAA with 19.8 points per game this season and is closing in on 1,000 points scored as a Blue Tiger. He needs 57 points to reach the milestone.

This is the second time this season the Blue Tigers have been honored with the MIAA Player of the Week. Senior guard Jaylon Smith took the weekly top honor Nov. 21.

Lincoln (10-5, 3-3 MIAA) will play Thursday at Pittsburg State.
