Eugene boys fall to Harrisburg in district championship

STURGEON, Mo. - The Eugene Eagles fell behind 13-0 to start Saturday's Class 2 District 8 Tournament championship game, trailing the entire way of a 91-75 loss to the Harrisburg Bulldogs.

Harrisburg, which won its first district title since 2009, led 24-15 after one quarter, but the Bulldogs would lead by double digits the rest of the game.

Eugene trailed 47-29 at halftime and 67-49 after three quarters. The Eagles trimmed the deficit to 11 points at 80-69 with 2:30 to play, but the Bulldogs hit free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Five players scored in double figures for Eugene, led by Mason Kirkweg with 18 points. Zach Bond added 17 points, Austin Engelbrecht scored 12 points and Jacob Adrian finished with 11 points. Tre Kempker also reached double figures with 10 points.

Harrisburg was led by Cade Combs with a game-high 36 points. Brendan Gray had 22 points and Cody Karl scored 16 for the Bulldogs.

Eugene, the tournament's top seed, finishes the season with a 21-7 record.
