Sixth-seeded Calvary girls upend Russellvile

STURGEON, Mo. - The sixth-seeded Calvary Lutheran Lady Lions wasted no time in building a double-digit lead Monday night, cruising to a 50-31 win against the Russellville Lady Indians in the first round of the Class 2 District 8 Tournament.

Calvary Lutheran led 15-4 after one quarter and then outscored Russellville 12-7 in the second quarter to lead 27-11 at halftime.

The Lady Lions led 38-25 through three quarters before outscoring the Lady Indians 12-6 in the fourth.

Rebecca Thompson led Calvary Lutheran with 11 points, while Lily McCarty and Brooke Rollins each had 10 points. Haley Braun posted nine points, 12 rebounds and six steals and Samantha Gunn added nine points and 10 rebounds.

McKendra Fischer had a team-high eight points for Russellville, which ends the season with a 14-11 record.

Calvary Lutheran (15-9) will face Eugene (16-10) in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Eugene, the No. 2 seed, topped Harrisburg 58-44 on Monday in its first-round matchup.
