COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Class 1 state wrestling championships ended the same as they began for Blair Oaks sophomore Dalton Bridges, with a matchup against Lawson's Tyler Hachman.

Bridges had hoped Saturday's fifth-place match would be more like his first-round pin against Hachman on Thursday at Mizzou Arena. Instead, the Lawson senior got his revenge, winning a 6-2 decision against Bridges at 126 pounds.

"It's always tough to see those rematches," Blair Oaks coach Tim Karsten said. "The guy who has the bad memory is going to wrestle a little harder."

Neither wrestler scored in the first period of Saturday's match and it continued to be a scoreless battle until late in the second period, when Hachman scored a takedown with :10 left. He added a 3-point nearfall before the period ended to lead Bridges 5-0 heading into the third.

"The first guy that gets the aggressive streak gets the momentum," Karsten said. "It's nice to have momentum."

Hachman extended his lead to 6-0 with an escape early in the third period. Bridges scored a takedown with :14 left in the match, but couldn't get any closer.

Hachman (30-9) was ranked No. 6 at 126 by MissouriWrestling.com and took third place last year at 120.

Bridges (29-10), a first-time state qualifier, was seeded sixth at 126 in last weekend's Class 1 District 2 Tournament. He ended the season with a sixth-place finish in Class 1.

"Dalton had a great tournament, medaled for us and we're real proud of him," Karsten said. "It's good to see him do that. He's got a bright future for us in the next couple of years."

In his first match Saturday in the fourth round of wrestlebacks, Bridges lost 6-0 to Drake Eychaner of North Andrew. Eychaner then lost 12-4 in the third-place match against Richmond's Austin Bowman, who defeated Bridges in the quarterfinals for his first loss of the state tournament.

Blair Oaks finished 26th in the Class 1 team standings with 19.5 points. Whitfield won the Class 1 state championship with 174.5 points.

Saturday's matches also marked the end of Karsten's coaching career at Blair Oaks. Karsten, who announced he was retiring at the end of the season, has been the Falcons' only wrestling head coach since the program began 16 years ago.

During Karsten's tenure, Blair Oaks has had 82 state qualifiers and three top-four team finishes in Class 1, including a state championship in 2014.

"It's been great," Karsten said. "Jeff City has a great wrestling community. I knew we'd have success down there when we brought the wrestling mats down to start wrestling at Blair Oaks.

"I'm just happy to look back and see all the boys - and girls - that have enjoyed wrestling for Blair Oaks."

Ian Schaumburg got the rematch he wanted.

The School of the Osage senior lost by fall to Oak Grove's Austin Kemp in Friday's semifinals, but the two went head-to-head again Saturday in the Class 2 third-place match at 285 pounds.

"It gave me a chance to come up with a game plan and know what I'm going to do," Schaumburg said.

Schaumburg topped Kemp the second time around with a 7-3 win to finish the season with a 30-5 record.

"I knew it was going to be a fight," Schaumburg said. "I knew I was going to have to work hard for it, that it wasn't going to be easy."

Following a scoreless first period, Kemp got an escape five seconds into the second to take a 1-0 lead. Schaumburg then recorded a takedown at the 1:31 mark and added a 3-point nearfall to lead 5-1 heading into the third.

"I could tell he was (out of gas) on the bottom," Schaumburg said of the takedown. "I just kept wrestling."

A stalling penalty and another escape by Kemp made the score 5-3 midway through the third period.

Rather than going into prevent mode down the stretch to hold on for a 2-point win, Schaumburg went into attack mode and padded his lead with a takedown with :02 remaining to finish with a 4-point victory against Kemp (34-4), who had finished third last season at 285.

"It was amazing," Schaumburg said. "It was the greatest thing in the world. He pinned me yesterday morning in :57, but I came back and beat him."

Schaumburg advanced to the third-place match with a 7-2 win Saturday morning in the fourth round of wrestlebacks against Centralia's Matthew Dean.

Osage's Austin Magnuson also ended his season with a win.

After allowing a reversal midway through the third period in a tough 2-1 loss against Austin Morgan of Excelsior Springs, Magnuson bounced back to win by fall in 4:18 against Winfield's Clark Rogers in the fifth-place match at 145.

Magnuson, a junior, finished the season with a 37-8 record.

Osage finished in a three-way tie for 17th in the Class 2 team standings with Moberly and St. Charles West, scoring 38 points.

The Versailles Tigers had a pair fifth-place finishers Saturday at the Class 1 state wrestling championships.

Michael Trotter made quick work in his fifth-place matchup at 170 pounds. The Versailles sophomore won by fall in :28 against Knob Noster's Kodie Bellury to finish fifth with a 37-13 record.

Trotter started the day with a 16-10 loss to Alvaro Porras of Lexington in the fourth round of wrestlebacks.

Willie Schotte had a tougher time in his fifth-place match at 182, but the senior held on for a 5-4 win against Lexington's Warren Sheppard.

Schotte lost his first match of the day, a 5-2 decision against Richmond's Austin Keefhaver. Schotte, who entered the state tournament undefeated and ranked No. 3, finished with a 43-2 record.

Versailles took 14th place in the Class 1 team standings with 42 points.
