Prep Wrestling: Bridges advances to final day of state tourney

COLUMBIA - Dalton Bridges of Blair Oaks was not seeded among the top four wrestlers at 126 pounds last weekend in districts.

This weekend, Bridges finish among the top six wrestlers in the state at his weight.

Bridges, a sophomore, advanced to the medal rounds of the state tournament with a pair of wins in the wrestleback rounds Friday at Mizzou Arena.

Bridges (29-8) opened Friday with a loss by fall to Austin Bowman of Richmond in the quarterfinals.

But Bridges then won by fall against Albany's Will Engel before besting Legend Alicea of Whitfield 10-3 to advance to today's action.

The fourth round of wrestlebacks will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the third- and fifth-place matches around noon.

Bridges is the lone Falcon still alive in the tournament.

Scott Farley lost his quarterfinal match at 220 by fall to Sam Hasekamp of Centralia, then lost by fall to Bradley Gibson of Plattsburg in the second round of wrestlebacks.

Paul Karsten was eliminated from the tournament Friday after losing by fall to Blake McClain of Plattsburg in the second round of wrestlebacks.

Bo Thomas and Kaleb Bisges were also eliminated in the second round of wrestlebacks. Thomas lost a 9-7 decision against Whitfield's Richard Jordan at 132, while Bisges lost by fall to Lafayette County's Joe Goetz at 285.
