Prep Wrestling: Jays win Evangel Classic

SHREVEPORT, La. - Jefferson City had seven first-place winners at the Evangel Holiday Classic and won the event with a score of 289 points.

Jays winners were: Garrett Butell at 106 pounds, Jeremiah Wallace at 113, Will Kuster at 138, Peter Kuster at 145, Ian Cote at 195, Brandon Backues at 220 and Nate McKaye at 285.

Peter Kuster was also named the tournament's outstanding wrestler for the two-day event.

Taylor Hopkins finished fourth at 120 pounds, Xavier Adams placed sixth at 126, Reece Neighbors was second at 152, Troy Sebra and Cory Denny took third at 160 and 170, respectively, and Elijah Jackson finished fourth at 182.

Poteau (Okla.) finished second with 212.5 points and Little Rock Central (Ark.) finished third with 210 points.

Jefferson City will next wrestle Thursday against Nixa, Ozark and Helias at Nixa.
