The South Callaway Lady Bulldogs are more than halfway to their total wins from last season, but coach Darren Humphrey wants the team to know there's still along way to go.

"We're really excited about being 8-0, but we've got rough matchups coming up," Humphrey said following Saturday afternoon's 80-34 win against Eldon at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Saturday's victory in the Capital City Shootout was the third time South Callaway has reached 80 points this season. It also broke the Shootout's record for most points scored, exceeding the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats' mark of 78, which they scored in a 78-38 win against Jamestown in the first game of the day.

"Going in we knew they were pretty talented," Eldon coach Ashley Agee said. "Probably one of the best offensive teams around. When you play teams like that, especially where we are at right now, you look at other goals besides just winning. Goals within yourself and trying to stay discipline."

South Callaway standout Adrian Mann and Eldon's Macie Halderman each scored the first points for their respective teams Saturday, and both finished with at least 20 points.

Mann scored 20 of her 22 in the first half. She made 10-of-11 at the free-throw line to lead a 17-of-19 mark for the Lady Bulldogs.

Eldon also did well at the line, making 7-of-9. Halderman made both of her free throws and was 9-of-17 from the floor for 20 points.

Turnovers piled up early as Eldon gave it away 10 times in the first quarter, leading to a 25-8 lead for South Callaway. By halftime, South Callaway led 52-21.

Three Lady Bulldogs combined to make five 3-pointers in the first half. South Callaway was 7-of-18 from beyond the arc for the game.

"We shoot a lot of threes in practice and I think that adds to our ability," Humphrey said. "We can be tough inside and we can be a really big threat on the outside as well."

Paige Clubb, one of two freshman starters for South Callaway, knocked down her second 3-pointer to make it 49-16 late in the third quarter. Clubb, who scored 14 points, was one of five double-digit scorers for South Callaway. Ashley Potter scored 16, and Kaci Jordan and Delaney Horstman each added 10.

"The thing that sets us apart from a lot of teams right now is we've got offense coming out of every direction," Humphrey said. "We don't have to rely on one player. We've got five team members that are scoring in double digits or close to double digits about every game."

Camri Bond was Eldon's second-leading scorer with seven points. The 5-foot-5 guard also had a game-high 11 rebounds.

"I thought she came ready to play today," Agee said. "The hustle was there."

South Callaway's next test is North Callaway, which will take on the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday in Mokane.

Eldon will host Buffalo on Tuesday.
