The second-longest tenure for a Jefferson City Jays football coach has come to an end.

After 12 years as head coach of the Jays, Ted LePage is stepping down from his post.

LePage announced the decision Sunday evening.

Since LePage took over as head coach in 2006, the Jays have finished with at least six wins 11 times. The lone season below that mark was his last as coach.

Jefferson City went 3-7 this past season, its worst finish since a 2-8 campaign in 2002 and LePage's only losing season as head coach of the Jays.

This past season got off on the right foot as the Jays got wins against McCluer North and rival Hickman during a 2-1 start.

The victory against the Kewpies gave LePage a 10-2 record against the rival from Columbia. But four straight losses by an average of 18.7 points followed.

Jefferson City bounced back with a dominating 31-14 win against Battle before blowout losses to Rockhurst and Blue Springs ended the season.

"I love coaching these players because it would have been very easy about midway through the season to tank it and they didn't," LePage said following the district loss to Blue Springs. "They kept going, and I really appreciate our players and our coaches and how hard they've worked this year."

LePage finishes with a record of 86-46 with the Jays, the second most wins in program history behind Pete Adkins' 354.

In LePage's first year as head coach, the Jays made it to the state semifinals for the first time since 2001. The Jays' season ended with a 16-10 loss to Blue Springs South.

Jefferson City returned the the Class 6 semifinals in 2008 before falling to Blue Springs South again.

The Jays haven't returned to the semifinals since, and last won a district championship in 2009 with a record of 9-3. Jefferson City didn't reach nine wins again until 2015, when the Jays ended their season with a loss to Blue Springs South in the district semifinals.

Prior to taking over at Jefferson City, LePage served as head coach at Blair Oaks for five season. He posted a 48-13 record with the Falcons, winning a state championship in 2004.
