Wrestling: Blair Oaks finishes 11th at tourney

UNION, Mo. - Using only seven wrestlers, the Blair Oaks Falcons finished 11th out of 25 teams Saturday at the Union Tournament.

Northwest: Cedar Hill won the team title with 188.5 points, followed by Marquette (174.5), Marshfield (172), Troy-Buchanan (156) and Ste. Genevieve (148.5).

Blair Oaks was one of three Class 1 schools participating. Hancock finished one spot ahead of the Falcons in 10th place with 79 points and Brentwood tied for 14th with 44.

Kyler Griep finished second out of 14 wrestlers at 160 pounds, posting a 3-1 record with one win by fall and another by technical fall before losing in the title match by fall to Northwest: Cedar Hill's Caleb Camacho.

Ben Thomas placed third at 152 with a 3-1 record as well. Thomas won by fall in the quarterfinals before dropping a 3-0 decision in the semifinals. He then won back-to-back matches by fall in the wrestlebacks.

Addison Canale took ninth to win consolation at 132 with a 3-1 record. After losing a 4-2 decision in his first match, Canale recorded a major decision (10-2) and two wins by fall in the wrestlebacks.

Shane Gillmore finished 2-2 at 195, falling in the consolation final, and Eli Batiste (138) and Eddie Wells (170) each posted 1-2 records. Jayce Griggs finished 0-2 at 120.

Blair Oaks competes Friday and Saturday in the Battle of Lexington Tournament.
