Ellinger has become a household name for Jays football the past few years.

Daniel Ellinger re-wrote the receiving record books, collecting 69 receptions for 1,317 yards from 2013-15 - both school records when he finished his career.

Now his brother Michael hopes to make a name for himself. Or at least make sure everyone gets his name right.

"Being the younger brother I've always been in his shadow," Michael Ellinger said. "A lot of my teachers call me Daniel from time to time. (My parents) will call me Daniel from time to time. I want to step out of that shadow and Daniel provides me with a way to keep pushing myself."

Daniel and Michael's mom, Chrissy, is also trying to bolster the family name on the football field. She has six years of playing experience. Although, it's only been one night a year.

Chrissy split out wide during Mom's Night on Wednesday at Adkins Stadium for the sixth and final time.

"She's really improved," Michael said. "I think every year she gets a little bit better."

The work has paid off. Chrissy ended the night with a juggling catch down the field.

"Did I scream when I caught the ball?" Chrissy asked.

Michael responded: "You did scream when you caught the ball."

"Oh, shoot," Chrissy said with a laugh.

But it was a catch, and would have been for a first down.

It capped off the final Mom's night for Chrissy, who's used the annual event to get some sense of the work her sons have put in during their football careers.

"I had no idea what to expect," she said of her first Mom's Night. "I didn't realize how hard it was and I didn't realize how hot these jerseys are. I knew what to expect this time and we had a lot of fun."

Michael said he's glad the moms are able to learn the mental side of the game as well.

"It's good to see everybody out here with their moms, having a fun time, the moms going through a little bit of what we go through every day," he said.

The number of practices and games at Adkins Stadium are dwindling for Michael, but there's still plenty to work for.

Michael admitted the career marks his brother put up are out of reach. However, he is aiming to better Daniel's season-best marks of 32 receptions and 669 yards.

"My brother playing here helped me set something that I need to strive for and something that I should be shooting at," Michael said. "He was all-state, his name is on my locker so everyday I go up there and see I just know that's what I'm working at."

And Chrissy will be there rooting for her son one final year in Jefferson City. And even beyond.

"It's sad, It's sad," Chrissy said. "But we'll be here even after this year and cheer for the Jays."
