Helias volleyball takes second place in tourney

ST. LOUIS - The Helias Lady Crusaders took second Saturday in the Gateway Matchup Tournament.

The Lady Crusaders finished first in their pool. Helias defeated Perryville (25-19, 25-16) and host Oakville (25-21, 25-17) and split with Ursuline Academy (25-18, 25-27) and Cor Jesu (25-19, 23-25).

In bracket play, Helias defeated Parkway WEst (25-13, 25-19) and Kirkwood (25-15, 25-19). In the semifinals, Helias downed Lutheran North (25-23, 25-16) before falling to Eureka (25-20, 18-25, 20-25) in the title match. Lutheran North is the No. 2 ranked small school in the St. Louis area, while Eureka is ranked No. 6 among the large schools.

For the tournament, Lexy Lamb had 113 assists, 50 service points and 48 digs. Ellie Rockers had 63 kills, 55 digs, 25 service points and seven blocks, while Regan Bruns totaled 48 kills, 67 digs, 45 service points and five blocks. Hannah Borchelt finished with 44 kills and seven blocks, while Korie Otto had 28 kills and 19 blocks. Abby Shepard totaled 75 assists, 29 service points and 22 digs, while Bradi Berhorst contributed 70 digs and 32 service points.

Helias (16-2-2) will return to action today at Hickman.
