The Helias Crusaders are entering the Class 4 postseason on a record roll.

Helias teammates Jacob Storms and Zach Stiles both set school single-game records Saturday as the Crusaders defeated the DeSmet Spartans 50-27 at Adkins Stadium.

"It was a great night," Helias coach Tim Rulo said. "We got a lot of things accomplished, we got a win that ensured us the chance at two home games in the district."

With the win, Helias (5-4) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the District 7 Tournament. The Crusaders will host seventh-seeded Warrensburg (2-7) next Saturday afternoon. Start time will be either 1 or 4 p.m.

Now to the records.

Storms and Stiles, along with four PATs from Vito Calvaruso, accounted for Helias' first-half scoring as the Crusaders took a 28-7 advantage into halftime.

The Crusaders stretched their lead to 30-7 on the opening possession of the third quarter when they blocked a Spartan punt attempt out of the back of the end zone.

Helias scored its final three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Blake Veltrop took it over from 31 yards out early in the period. Storms then scored his final touchdown from 38 yards before Dylan Gaines scored on a 15-yard run with 3:22 to play.
