Lady Crusaders win title at Borgia Cross Country Invite

Jays, Lady Jays participate but not with full squad

WASHINGTON, Mo. - The Helias Lady Crusaders captured team honors Saturday at the Borgia Cross County Invitational.

Helias finished with 40 points to take the title in the eight-team event. Borgia was second with 59, while Whitfield was third with 94.

Kayla Yanskey of the Lady Crusaders was second, finishing in 20:33.70. Abby Hake, Emma Veltrop, Morgan Yanskey and Ashley Eskens were ninth-12th, respectively, for Helias. Lanie Hentges finished 14th, while Alicia Engelbrecht was 16th.

On the boys side, Helias was third with 97 points. Ste. Genevieve was first in the 20-team field with 31 points, while Kirkwood was second with 97.

Jack Crull of Helias was sixth overall in 17:29.50. Riley Scott and Brian Kirchoff were 19th and 20th for Helias, while Jenson Starr was 26th. Nathan Wieberg finished 32nd and Jack Hentges was 34th.

In the JV girls event, Helias posted a perfect score of 15 to beat four other teams. Elly Bowles (22:2.40) was the winner, followed by Taylor Koelling, Rachel Smith, Madeline Mueller and Maya Heckart.

In the JV boys event, Helias was sixth with 128 points. Kirkwood topped the 10-team field with 43 points. Blake Bauer was fifth in 19:24.50 to lead Helias.

Jays at Borgia Invitational

WASHINGTON, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays and Lady Jays participated Saturday at the Borgia Cross Country Invitational.

Jefferson City, which did not run its normal varsity teams in the event, was sixth on the boys side with 192 points. The Lady Jays did not field a full squad.

Deacon Walker topped Jefferson City's finishers, taking 25th with a time of 18:32. Landon Dunlap was 28th, while Blake Conrad was 42nd. Patrick Malone (52nd), Blake Snellen (55th) and Izaak Sochinski (69th) rounded out Jefferson City finishers.

The Lady Jays had two runners - Jackie Hensley (35th, 24:53) and Hope Lewis (41st, 25:30).

In the JV girls race, Jefferson City was fourth with 104 points. Mallorie Smith led the Lady Jays, taking eighth in 25:26.

The Jays did not field a full JV boys team. Brady Stockman led the Jays, taking 35th in 20:02.
