Lady Crusaders to face Storm in soccer sectional

To get back to Kansas City, the Helias Lady Crusaders will have to win today in Kansas City.

Helias (15-9) will open play in the Class 3 state soccer tournament this afternoon against the Notre Dame de Sion Storm (16-5, ranked No. 5).

The Lady Crusaders were the top seed in the District 13 Tournament and dominated their two opponents, winning games against Warrensburg and host Harrisonville by a combined score of 9-0.

The Storm, the defending Class 3 state champions, were the host team for the District 14 Tournament. They blanked Grandview 13-0 and Belton 3-0 to take the title.

Shutouts are common for both teams. Helias has 11 blankings this season while Notre Dame de Sion has kept the opponent off the scoreboard in 14 games.

The Lady Crusaders are averaging three goals per game. The Storm are totaling just under five per contest.

The Helias-Notre Dame de Sion winner will face either ninth-ranked Grain Valley (18-5) or Platte County (15-6) in the Class 3 quarterfinals Saturday.

The Class 3 Final Four is scheduled for June 3-4 at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City.
