Jays edge Smith-Cotton to advance in baseball

COLUMBIA - It was a game befitting a pair of top-10 teams.

JT Bohlken hurled a four-hitter Tuesday as the No. 5 Jefferson City Jays edged the No. 8 Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tigers 1-0 in the semifinals of the Class 5 District 10 Tournament at Hickman.

With the win, second-seeded Jefferson City (24-6) advances to take on top-seeded and second-ranked Rock Bridge (26-7) for the title at 6 p.m. today. The game is scheduled to be played at Battle High School.

Bohlken walked one and struck out six in going the distance for the victory.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brandon Williams singled home Kade Franks.

Grant Wood had two hits in a seven-hit Jefferson City attack.

Smith-Cotton ends its season at 27-6.

It's the third straight season Rock Bridge and Jefferson City have met for the district title. The Bruins have won the two previous meetings - 7-1 last year and 5-0 in 2014.

The District 10 champion will host the District 9 winner in the sectionals next Tuesday.

Jefferson City and Rock Bridge have met once this season, with the Bruins taking a 6-3 decision at home on May 3.
