Elder tied for lead in Class 2

Tanner Elder of Blair Oaks is tied for the lead after the opening day of the Class 2 State Golf Championships.

Elder, a senior who won the state title last year, fired an even-par 72 Monday at Sedalia Country Club. He is tied with Jack Parker of Father Tolton for the top spot, one shot ahead of Taylor Haltom of Ava.

Walker Kesterson of Southern Boone is in a three-way tie for fourth at 74. Logan Taylor of South Callaway is in a three-way tie for 10th at 77.

Southern Boone is in second place among eight teams at 322. Bishop LeBlond had three players in the top 10 Monday and tops the team race at 304. Hermann is third at 324, while Springfield Catholic and Maryville are tied for fourth at 330.

In the Class 4 tournament at Silo Ridge in Bolivar, Gabe Trowbridge of Jefferson City is tied for 21st after Monday's opening round.

Trowbridge, a senior, shot an 81.

Noah Anderson of Battle, Kerry Maguire of Lee's Summit West and Sam Parrott of Liberty are tied for the individual lead after shooting 72s.

Glendale leads the team standings with a 314. Chaminade is second at 318, while Rock Bridge and Rockhurst are tied for third at 322.

In the Class 3 tournament at Rivercut in Springfield, a pair of area players shot 84s on Monday.

Jack Rundle of Helias and Jacob Krantz of School of the Osage are tied for 34th after the opening round. Curtis Campbell of Helias is tied for 80th after a 95.

Play in the Class 1 tournament at Fremont Hills in Nixa was suspended due to soft greens due to rainy conditions.

The tournament will resume at 9 a.m. today, with players starting where they were when play was called off Monday. Due to the suspension, the Class 1 tournament will only be one round. Scores from Monday were unavailable.

Gannon Withers of New Bloomfield and Tristan Bolin of Tipton are the local players competing in Class 1.
