Prep Baseball: Helias 5, Waynesville 4

WAYNESVILLE - The Helias Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead Tuesday, then held on to defeat the Waynesville Tigers 5-4.

The Crusaders scored single runs in the first two innings, then added two more in the third to make it 4-0. Helias scored its final run in the fourth. The Tigers scored all four of their runs in the fifth.

Nolan Sachse scored two runs from the leadoff position for Helias, reaching base three times on a hit and two walks. Alex Faddoul, Ryan Gartner and Zach Stiles also scored. Faddoul, Matthew Dampf and Nick Carr drove in a run each.

Clayton Winter went the distance, allowing just three hits and no earned runs as Helias committed three errors in the game. He walked two and struck out two.

Helias (17-8) will wrap up the regular season Thursday at home against Sedalia Smith-Cotton. The varsity game is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
