The Blue Springs South Jaguars and St. Joseph Benton Cardinals went up and down the floor in the first quarter of Friday's third-place game in the State Farm Holiday Hoops Invitational.
The quarter ended with the Jaguars holding a 17-15 lead against the Cardinals. But Benton went cold the rest of the way as Blue Springs South posted a 49-35 victory.
After going 7-of-14 from the field in the first quarter, Benton was just 6-of-23 in the final three periods.
Blue Springs South led 28-19 at the half and 43-28 after three quarters.
Jayde Williams and Mia Henderson paced the Cardinals with nine points each. Bailey Russell, a member of the all-tournament team, added six points. Gabby Fuller pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Tiffany Davenport had a game-high 17 points for the Jaguars. Naia Tauai added 15, while Zoie Reynolds chipped in with 11. Tauai finished with a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds.
Davenport and Tauai also were all-tournament picks.
